About Amy Olsen & Ivy Acres Dog Care
“I‘ve always had a passion for dogs, I’ve always had dogs in my life, and I’ve always dreamed of Ivy Acres.”
Finding the perfect property in Spencerport was just what I needed to make my dream become a reality! This property is conveniently located just 1 ½ miles off Route 531, yet is full of country charm.
Years ago, I had trouble finding someone to care for my sweet dog, Roscoe, when we went on a vacation; I wished a service like this was out there back then. Roscoe was a Canine Good Citizen & Therapy dog. He was the sweetest, most well-behaved dog who was gentle and easy to care for, but I needed someone to be there with him, not out of the house working for 8+ hours of the day. I needed to ensure his safety in order to relax and have a good time myself. With that experience I fully realized the need for good family care in the absence of a dog’s real family. Here at Ivy Acres we fill in when your family must file out!
You have several options when you need to leave your dog:
- Leaving pets with friends & neighbors is one... Sometimes, it is a lot to ask of them. Even great dogs may be an intrusion on people’s schedules. Even with their best intentions, your dog may escape from their yard. Without a routine, dogs may try to find their own way home. Here at Ivy Acres, we have complete fencing around our 5 acres and smaller fenced in areas. We know dogs, & we watch dog’s full time.
- Kennels are another way to go... Sometimes they are too big, sterile, noisy and scary for the unaccustomed house dog. Dogs don’t have the same sense of time as we do. This may lead to freighted, lonely dogs who think they are being punished by their seclusion. Checking the integrity of all staff members that come in contact with your dog sometimes is impossible with big kennels. Many times dogs return home, their voices horse from being allowed to bark too much. Some return home with health or behavior issues since their training may not be kept up.
- A third option is a pet sitter who comes to your house to watch your animals... Usually you pay per visit for these services, and you’re never quite sure how much time or attention your animals are getting. With this option you’re exposing your home and all its content to someone else. There are a lot of details to negotiate: Who cleans up if your pets have accidents? Who is allowed in the house? Who knows if your pet isn’t feeling well? Sometimes this is the way to go, but if you’re looking for round the clock loving care you’re going to love us!
Ivy Acres offers the alternative to these options... We’ve been boarding dogs for over 4 years now, and have learned a lot. We love dogs! We love interacting with them and giving each one personalized attention. We treat them with the same love and care that we give our own dogs. We look forward to meeting new faces and having more tails wag this year!
